Change That Recording In Your Head!

Hi Team Dragon Fit!

Hope you are all doing well and “crushing” your workouts.  On my site and my emails, you have probably heard me talk a lot about the physical benefits of being fit, such as losing 100 lbs., having more energy, etc.  However, there is also a ton of mental and spiritual benefits that are just as equally important.  The single biggest benefit I can tell you is that I just plain “feel” better about myself.

Now that I have taken control of my health and am in shape, it is amazing how much my life has changed.  I look at life differently.  One thing I noticed is that nagging negative recording in my head that always played on auto loop got deleted somewhere along the way.  All those fears and anxiety just disappeared.  Amazing!  I had been overweight and out of shape for over 20 years.  I had plain given up.  That negative recording in my head would always play “you’re fat”, “you’re tired”, “don’t workout”, “eat some pizza, it will make you feel better”, “push the snooze button again”, etc.  You get the idea.

Strange!  I can’t tell you exactly when it happened.  I just noticed it gone one day.  I think it was shortly after my first Round of P90x when I lost 22 lbs. in 3 months.  It was no longer “if” I would get in shape, but “when” I would get in shape.  For the first time in a long time, I belived in myself again.  My confidence was growing.  I made the decision that this was “my time”!  The recording changed in my head.  I started looking forward to my workouts.   I started noticing changes in my body.  Many people who have witnessed my transformation over the last year and a half have commented to me that I look younger, healthier, and happier.  The truth is that I feel that way too.

So, the key for anyone starting your fitness journey is to really look at the recording that plays in your head.  If you have started a program and find yourself having trouble sticking to it or following a nutrition plan, then listen very closely to the recording in your head.   Realize that it may be one that you no longer want to listen to.  Instead, record a new one.  I love one of the quotes from Tony Horton on P90x.  He says that pull ups give people a lot of trouble.  They were for me.  I could not do a single unassisted pull up when I first started P90x.  It was humbling to have my 275 lb. body dangling from the pull up with almost zero movement.  I had to do every single pull up with a chair.  Honestly, I think my legs got a better workout than my lats did!  LOL!   Tony says, “Don’t say I can’t.  Say I presently struggle with” and you will find yourself over time being able to accomplish what you once thought was impossible.  Now I can crank out pull ups!

So, with any challenge you are facing, never say “I can’t”, intead say “I presently struggle with”.  By losing a hundred pounds, I am now a firm believer that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to.  It is amazing to get that confidence back that you can conquer the world!  Anyone who has overcome their fears knows exactly what I am talking about.  I now look at life differently and with more opportunities!  I hope you will too!

Here’s to your health!  Keep “bringing it”!
