Monday Motivation – What Are You Reading?

Monday Motivation – What Are You Reading?

Jul 8, 2013

Hey, Dragons! Here is a quick video for your Monday Motivation! WHAT ARE YOU READING? A question I would like to ask you is, “What are you reading?”  I am not talking about what is on your coffee table or on your bookshelf collecting dust.  I am talking about what are you “actively” reading?  If you are on this site, then you are likely already improving yourself with exercise and nutrition.  The area that many of us neglect is personal development.  There are tons of distractions, that if we let them, will consume our entire day.  So, we never feel we have enough time to do what we know is good for us. The key is to say “no” to the distractions and “choose” to read something that will help make you think, challenge you, and develop you personally.  Some people enjoy reading the newspaper and watching the news all day.  For me, I skim those briefly but do not let it consume my day because they are the “sames”.  Meaning you get almost the “same” news everyday.  Just the names and places seem to change.  Also, watching the news these days tends to sensationalize the negative and downplay the positive, which only feeds our daily stress. So, my recommendation is to broaden your horizons!  Pick up something that has great reviews.  Start with only a chapter a day.  You don’t need to consume an entire book in one sitting.  In fact, I have benefited from reading one chapter and let it “bake” in my head for a while before moving on.  I often re-read certain books because I almost always take something “new” from them that I missed the first time. RECOMMENDATIONS ON FURTHER READING: Here is a list of books I recommend: “The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People” by Stephen Covery.  A timeless book with great advice on how to prioritize, weekly planning, and enhance your relationships. “First Things First” by Stephen Covey.  This book takes time management discussed in the previous book to the next level. “Eat That Frog” by Brian Tracy.  Great practical advice on time management “Getting Things Done” by David Allen.  This book gives great advice on...

Hey, Dragons! This is Coach Fred checking in.  Hope you are all continuing to push play and crush your  nutrition! For many of you, you may have not heard from me in a while.  A lot has happened for me both personally and professionally. I share some of it in my posts.  I struggled when I let “life” get in the way.  Still, with all that has been going on, I am proud to say that I found the time to push play every day, “bring it” on my nutrition, and help daily to lead the dedicated members who take on our private Facebook Challenge Group. I promise to do a better job sharing information with the entire team on teamdragonfit.com and I hope that you don’t hesitate to ping me with any questions or share with me any of  your “wins” both big and small! In April, I celebrated my 43rd birthday, and it feels awesome to be fit in my forties! In addition, the team on our private Facebook challenge celebrated our very first “fat pants” Friday in that month! LOL! We all put on our “fat pants” that we started with and took photos and everyone showed all the weight they are losing. Everyone is doing an awesome job and I am SUPER proud of you all! Happy 4th of July! Tough Mudder Is Coming

Jul 4, 2013

Hey Dragons! Just wanted to wish everyone out there a Happy 4th of July!  Hope you had a chance to share some quality time with your families.  Personally, I enjoyed taking my family last night to the Reno Aces Baseball Stadium and watched all the fireworks after the game.  The kids had a blast! Some of you on my private group challenge know that I have been in training for my first Tough Mudder.  What is Tough Mudder?  It is a 10 to 12 mile run with challenging obstacles placed throughout the entire event.  It is promoted as “Probably the Toughest Event on the Planet”.  Is it tough?  Well, take a look at the following video and let me know what you think. The coolest part is that part of the admission fee goes to the “Wounded Warrior Project”, which helps those injured serving our great nation. I am both nervous and excited for this event.  It takes place on July 14th in Tahoe and that means I have less than 2 weeks to get ready.  I’ll update you all after the event. Wishing you all the very best on this great holiday! -Coach Fred  ...

Motivation Mondays

Motivation Mondays

Jul 1, 2013

Hey, Dragons! Hope you are all doing well on this fine Monday!  It’s a beautiful day today in Reno!  Forecast is 100 degrees so it is going to be a hot one! I often like to ask those on my team, “What are you CHOOSING to do today to make your life awesome!”  For me, today I “chose” to get up at 5:30am so I could run 6 miles starting at 6:30am. Why get up an hour early you may ask?  I live in Reno, Nevada and it is a desert.  It is always important to plan ahead and start the hydration process early, especially since I live in an area that is so dry and hot.  So, I set my alarm early and sneak out of bed and tip toes downstairs so I can start hydrating and getting limber before I go outside for my run.  So, be like me and don’t just “find” time to workout, you need to “make” time! Please check out my video above.  Hopefully, it puts a little motivation in your Monday!  In it, you will find a NEW challenge for the week!  If you are part of my “private” Facebook challenge group, please post your results of the “wall squat” challenge by Sunday to the group. Remember that there are 2 ways to win “bragging rights” this week: 1) who has the longest time, and 2) who has the most “creative” place to do it! Take a photo for fun and share with the team! Keep pushing play and “bringing it” on your nutrition! -Coach Fred      ...

When “LIFE” Gets in the Way!

When “LIFE” Gets in the Way!

Apr 23, 2013

Hi Team Dragon Fit! I’m back!!! Well, to be honest, I never really left.  Sorry I have not been posting new content on this site for a long time.  I, like so many others, have unfortunately let “life” get in the way. It started when I opened our new family restaurant at the end of September last year.  For those that have never run a restaurant before, just take a look at the TV Show “Restaurant Impossible” to get a flavor of all the drama that occurs behind the scenes!  LOL!  The good news is that I am committed to living a fit lifestyle so I continued to work out daily, bring it on nutrition, and have been logging in daily to our private “Group Challenge” Facebook page that I have been leading for accountability.  The great news is that several “Dragons” on our team have been bringing it hard and are close to hitting their goals, which as a coach, makes me SUPER proud! Just as I felt things getting more in control, “life” threw me a big curve!  Actually, it felt more like “life” slammed me into a brick wall!  Just the day after a great Thanksgiving celebration with my parents and all my family, I got the dreaded phone call from my sister.  She said to hurry because our dad just had a stroke and was in the hospital.  It was one of the toughest moments in my life.  The first weeks were the hardest because the doctors were not able to know the extent of the brain damage. It would take time.  At one point, the doctor told me in private that he was unsure if my father would ever walk or talk again.  My heart sank. The one thing I want to say to everyone is to be sure to take care of yourselves! Eat right and exercise! In the end, all we have is our health.   It was scary to see my father, who is someone that I have looked up to my entire life as a very strong man, to be in the hospital.  I volunteered to stay all night with...

Hi Team Dragon Fit, Hope you are all having a great weekend and that you are ‘crushing” both your workouts and your nutrition! This is my 3rd summer living in Reno, Nevada.  We are finally finding many more fun places to take our children out to play and swim. I have especially enjoyed taking my kids to splash around in the Truckee River that runs along downtown Reno.  It’s a shame I didn’t find this spot sooner!  It’s a ton of fun to let the kids splash about and the best part of all is that it is totally free! For all my friends who are keeping tabs on my family restaurant business (Peg’s Glorified Ham n Eggs), I am proud to announce that we will be opening our fourth location in Sparks near Reno in late September!  I will be in charge of opening and running this new location.  As you can imagine, it takes a lot of work to open a new restaurant.  I may be crazy busy right now, but I promise you all that I am taking the time to make sure I work out everyday and I hope that you all do too!   CHALLENGE GROUP UPDATE: For many of us that started on the same date, we are almost at our 30 day mark.  The group is going strong and everyone is pushing play on their programs and making great progress.  I am doing Body Beast and I am loving this program.  I just transitioned from the beginning “Build” phase, to the “Bulk” phase.  If you would like to join us, this group is open to everyone. The only requirement is that you post daily your nutrition and workout.  If you are interested, go to facebook and click “join group” at: http://www.facebook.com/groups/TeamDragonFit/  If you are not quite ready to make the plunge into a Challenge Group, that is alright.  Please feel free to ask me questions any time.  I am always here to help!   RECENT POST: 1) “Is This YOUR Time?” http://teamdragonfit.com/motivation/is-this-your-time/   AND 2 FAVORS I ASK: 1) If you like the hard work I put into writing my articles and content, PLEASE help me out by sharing them.
